At Norstar Agriculture, we’re proud to be a licensed dealer of OMEX fertilizers and products. OMEX products are a favourite among Canadian farmers, with a broad lineup of fertilizers, soil amendments, crop boosters, and more.
But with over 50 products in their lineup, choosing the right option for your needs can prove challenging. While it’s best to seek a professional agronomist’s support for your soil, there are several standout products we recommend time and time again. Read on as we highlight a few of our favourite OMEX fertilizers and products (in no particular order).
OMEX Product #1: Nutri-Boost
For a Sustainable Boost
Prairie fields are no stranger to periods of stress. From droughts to flooding and soil erosion, crops must be resilient in order to survive. Fortunately, OMEX fertilizers are designed to support sustained crop growth, even under the most stressful conditions.
OMEX Nutri-Boost is formulated with phosphorus and other essential nutrients and is applied shortly after the initial shoot growth stage. Phosphorus is a crucial nutrient during the early growth stages, when ATP and ADP multiply cells for shoots, leaves, and stems. As a result, Nutri-Boost has been proven to support crops in recovering from stress, particularly during the crucial early development stages.
OMEX Product #2: SuperB KB78
For Stronger, More Resilient Crops
The SuperB KB78 OMEX fertilizer distributes an easily soluble and readily available source of boron in plants. Boron is a crucial micronutrient that’s often overlooked despite its necessity for healthy crop development. Cell walls aren’t stable on their own and must be strongly linked together, which boron helps stabilize. When paired with pest-control inputs, it also aids in deterring insects with its stronger, more formidable walls.
Not only that, but boron is an essential molecule in the transportation and distribution of larger nutrients. If these nutrients aren’t able to be cycled throughout the plant’s structures, stunted growth can occur in leaves, stems, and flowering buds.
OMEX Product #3: StimPro JA
For Protection Against Pests
Farmers in the Canadian prairies are well acquainted with crop pests. From pea leaf weevils to grasshoppers and wireworms—these pests can decimate crops season after season. While pesticides are widely used as a means of eliminating these harmful pests, they don’t provide crops with any natural defense.
That’s where OMEX’s StimPro JA (Jasmonic Acid) comes in. Jasmonic Acid is naturally found in many plants and regulates defence mechanisms against insects, pathogens, fungi, and more. Crops with sufficient JA levels can more effectively signal to nearby plants during periods of stress or ‘attacks’. This additional source of Jasmonic Acid helps bolster the natural triggers of plants when dealing with these stressors. While not a traditional OMEX fertilizer, the StimPro JA provides tremendous benefits in natural crop resilience against harm.
OMEX Product #4: Cell Power K25
For Stronger Cellular Growth
The powerful K25 OMEX fertilizer is composed of 25% potassium oxide and 2% urea nitrogen. Potassium is an essential macronutrient for several crop processes, including brix production. A high concentration of brix creates yields that are sweeter, healthier, and richer in colour. During the late growing season, when fruits, vegetables, and other crops are reaching maturity, brix production is at its peak.
Cell Power K25 works by raising potassium levels during this stage, playing a key role in producing the all-important sucrose synthase enzyme. Not only that, but it also creates favourable conditions for more efficient water transport throughout cells and photosynthesis.
