An Agricultural Lime
Cement Kiln Dust is a refined biproduct of the cement industry. Cement is made with limestone and if potassium is present in this process the product chemically breaks down when mixed with water instead of solidifying. This product is taken, specially refined, and turned into dust into beneficial use for the agricultural industry.
Why use CKD?
- 4% potassium [K] content that is entirely available within the first 2 years post application and can often cut out potassium [K] after a lime application for 1-2 years depending on residual levels.
- 25% silica content. Silica is key for increasing your soils water holding capacity, allowing for more water to be absorbed into the soil in wet conditions and held for dry conditions.
- More affordable as opposed to traditional lime.
- Less product needed for full results than traditional lime sources.
- CKD is a highly reactive, hydrated lime (Calcium Oxide [CaO]) that shows improvements within the 1st year, most changes in the 2nd, and full results by the 3rd year.
When do you need lime?
- Calcium deficiency (below 70% base saturation).
- High Magnesium [Mg] soil, often very tough sticky soils.
- Calcium [Ca] levels are too low in comparison to magnesium [Mg] levels, often hard pan soil and poor water penetration.
- Low/high pH soils (out of the 6.5-7 range).
- Aluminum toxicity (above 600ppm).
